Welcome!
The Catalysis Society of Japan (CATSJ) is honored to host the 19th International Congress on Catalysis (19th ICC) in Kyoto, Japan on 25-30 June 2028. We will be sharing information about new developments in catalysis, especially in Asia.
The CATSJ was founded in 1958, and so in 2028 we will be celebrating our 70th anniversary. Over the years, the CATSJ has provided many opportunities for researchers to exchange information, and has promoted both academic and technological progress.
The CATSJ has a solid track record of hosting international meetings on catalysis, including the 7th ICC in Tokyo in 1980 and the 5th Asia Pacific Congress on Catalysis in Sapporo in 2010. Every four years, the CATSJ organizes the Tokyo Conference on Advanced Catalytic Science and Technology (TOCAT).
The theme of the 19th ICC is "Toward a Brilliant Future." The emphasis will be on how advanced catalysts can enrich everyday life through contributions in realms including clean energy and sustainability. Key topics for discussion range from novel catalyst design for sustainable chemistry to a fundamental and practical understanding of materials, mechanisms, and processes. The conference program will cover these core areas of catalysis science and technology.
Sharing information and engaging in discussion will strengthen bonds between people, countries, regions, and continents. It is our hope that the 19th ICC will push past current study boundaries and facilitate the progress of young researchers.
Contributions to the success of the 19th ICC can also be expected from the various satellite conferences that will be held in Japan and neighboring countries, with support from the Asia Pacific Associates of Catalysis Societies (APACS).
The 19th ICC will be held in Kyoto, which is home to many globally renowned universities and institutions. World-class academics in Kyoto have made valuable contributions across the board from fundamental science to technological applications.
The venue is Kyoto International Conference Center, which is among the top international meeting complexes in the world. It was here, for example, that the Kyoto Protocol was adopted in 1997 at the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change UNFCCC (COP3).
Japan is easy to reach via direct flights from cities around the world. Thanks to Japan's outstandingly reliable travel infrastructure, Kyoto is easy to reach from airports and cities around the country. And Kyoto International Conference Center is easy to reach from the center of Kyoto, a city that offers a comprehensive range of places to stay.
Kyoto, capital of Japan for over a thousand years, showcases countless sites of historical significance: temples, shrines, palaces, gardens. Many are inscribed on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites.
The city offers a kaleidoscopic selection of cultural wonders. Let us mention just two that we would love you to experience: kaiseki, a series of exquisitely presented seasonal delicacies; and the geisha of Gion, a district with picturesque traditional streets. Both kaiseki and geisha usher you into a world of refined beauty and thoughtful hospitality.
We will be aiming to optimize access to the best of Kyoto, and one way we can do this is by minimizing your financial burden. Accordingly, we will be leveraging our long experience in hosting events to seek maximum support from the national government, the city government, and private corporations.
With current exchange-rate conditions, the registration fee and accommodation costs should be attractively low for international participants.
Moreover, we will be offering travel grants to selected students making oral presentations. Our aim is to encourage attendance by as many young students and scientists as possible.
The 19th ICC will take place forty-eight years after the first occasion when ICC was held in Japan. The new CATSJ generation is eager to take this chance to engage with catalysis researchers from around the world, with the support of the International Association of Catalysis Societies (IACS).
We look forward to welcoming you to Kyoto in 2028!
